Exchange is a reflection on the value of art as well as the art market as a whole. I want to reveal the mechanisms in play between money and art, at the same time creating a short-circuit between the two. However, I feel this can only be done in a direct trade with a prospective buyer where through a ‘private negotiation’ the singular situation of creating art through the destruction of money is discussed. Like Joseph Beuys had already shown with his 1979 work 10 Mark: Kust = Kapital, the voiding of money triggers a process in which monetary capital will start circulating as cultural capital. With Exchange this apparently complex process is laid bare and demystified.
